Itchy for Adventure Travel?

I’ve got to ask this question, “Am I alone out here????”   Does anyone else have these damn itchy feet?

I don’t mean that I need some Dr. Scholls foot powder, no I mean the inability to stay put, the insatiable need for movement, the constant curiosity for the world.   Do other people wake up and wonder, “hmmm, I wonder what’s going on in Kathmandu today?” or spend time massaging road lines in the atlas or tracing mountain ranges to the sea?

It’s not a bad thing, don’t get me wrong, it’s who I am, it’s what I live for but I just wonder if anyone else out there is this obsessed with it?

I live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, high up on a mountain.   It’s spring and the mountain blue birds give true meaning to “a bluebird day”.   The kestrels are hovering over the field and the hawks are circling under the “big sky”.   The mule deer bucks are sporting their new velvet stubbied antlers and the coyotes are pouncing for mice out back.   The eagles are soaring for no other reason than it’s spring. It’s truly magical.   I love visiting…I love VISITING.

And so the quest is and has always been, how to keep traveling and exploring the world leaving no stone unturned.   How does one “get to it all?”   How does one sit on top of a Himalayan summit, dive every inch of the blue planet, watch the wildebeest migrate across Africa and explore the culture of Samoa in just one lifetime???

Just the other night, I watched, The Lion King, again.   Wow, there are a gazillion lessons in that movie.   The words from the opening song, “The Circle of Life” rang true to me though for some reason I hadn’t noticed them before.

“From the day we arrive on the planet, and blinking, step into the sun.   There’s more to see then can ever be seen, more to do than has ever been done.”

Now there’s a challenge if I’ve ever heard one!

Yes, it’s true, I have actually been accused of “running away”, “escaping the world”, “not paying the piper”.   That’s fine, think what they want.   How can you run AWAY from the wonder of the planet.   Are you kidding?   I’m running TO….running as fast as I can to see and experience and live it ALL.     And to the comment, “When are you going to pay the piper?”   I say, “Why would I EVER pay the piper at all if I don’t have to?”   I’m not talking about shirking responsibility, just the opposite.   I feel that I have a responsibility to get to know this earth, to share its goodness with the world, to show people the beauty of it through travel and adventure and bring people together to understand their connection in it.

I highly question the words of the Sherman brothers who wrote, “It’s a Small World After All.”   Are you kidding???? The world is HUGE because to really experience it all, learn about and explore all the cracks and corners, there simply isn’t enough time.
Help! I’m running as fast as I can and I can’t get to it all!!   It’s a wonderful, magical, whimsical, scary, exciting, fascinating, beautiful, spiritual, awe-inspiring world out there.

What a Wonderful Diverse World we Live in! Are you Experiencing it?

Do you see it?   Are you experiencing it?   Are you living it?

Ask yourself these questions that I ask myself each and every day.   Contemplate that while I go and scratch my feet.

“Remember what Bilbo used to say: It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
-JRR Tolkien
